Activities in Phase 2 include: dismantling of boreholes, examining the conditions and performance of pump, rising main and borehole using CCTV; detailed local physical hydrogeological investigations and pumping tests; detailed hydrochemical and residence time sampling to investigate local water quality; and finally examining local governance arrangements.
The research is funded by UK’s NERC, ESRC and DFID and involves a consortium of leading academic and research institutions including British Geological Survey, Sheffield University, Cambridge University, Flinders University and ODI. The UPgro Mala-wi team comprises Dr. Evance Mwathunga, Dr. Theresa Mkandawire, Chikondi Shaba, Sembeyawo Banda and Patrick Makulini.
